Time:  9:00AM – 4:00PM
Cost:  $225 per student

Instructor Bios
Zach Fisher grew up in the woods and on the beaches of Northern California.  The pursuit of art and music brought him to the East Coast and eventually to the Tom Brown Tracker School, which he considers to be the beginning of the education he was always looking for. He began teaching in 2011 and has since worked for several NY based earth skills programs.  Zach is a co-founder of Earth Living Skills. He also leads guided tours for children and adults with Discover Outdoors into the state parks of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. His goal as a teacher and a student is to foster a deeper connection between people and the natural world in the spirit of discovery and the maximizing of our human potential.

Joe Blevis grew up in New Jersey but has been living in the mountains of Montana for the better part of the past seven years. Since his internship at the Tom Brown Tracker School in New Jersey, Joe went on to become an earth-skills instructor with the several organizations, including Twin Eagles Wilderness School, Children of the Earth Foundation, and Earth Living Skills, where he shares his knowledge of earth skills with children and teens. One thing that became clearly evident to Joe was that, regardless of age, everyone benefited from these skills.  Whether it was through learning how to use a bow drill, or crawling around on their bellies tracking weasels, or exploring the deeper philosophies of our earth, all of these things inspired an inner awakening in the students. This was evident from a new light in their eyes, the sound of their belly laughs, and their endless stories around the campfires.  Joe’s hope is, even if only for a few hours, to bring everyone into the present moment by reconnecting them with nature.

Art of Feminine Presence workshop with Carol Peters
Saturday, July 15th (10a-5p)
In the pursuit of a career, or having to take care of so many people around them, many women have disconnected from their feminine essence and their personal presence without realizing it. This affects everything. From being able to attract and keep a passionate lasting love, the state of our health, fulfillment in our work, and to the unfortunate situation of women competing against women everywhere. In this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Develop a physical and energetic presence that attracts the attention you want: personally and professionally.
  • Feel more comfortable with your sensuality, and with receiving positive attention.
  • Experience more passion in your life - particularly your love life.
  • Be more at ease setting clear boundaries with others.
  • Learn to follow your "higher guidance" rather than always pushing to make things happen.

“Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally.  Mindfulness is about love and loving life. When you cultivate this love, it gives you clarity and compassion for life, and your actions happen in accordance with that.”

Forest Schools are gaining popularity as a tool to help children achieve mindfulness and self-esteem, through hands-on experiences in a woodland environment.  To that end, Amethyst’s Children’s Mindfulness and Nature classes are being offered from April through October, providing the experience of learning mindfulness practices in a natural outdoor environment with woodlands, meadows, and grasslands.

One of the desires of this program is to teach the children of today to revere and care for Mother Nature, and there is no better way to develop this love than through directly experiencing the mystery and beauty of the outdoors. Being outdoors in nature builds a sense of wonder, independence, creativity and imagination. This may be achieved through sitting while listening to bird songs, growing gardens, skipping rocks, finding treasures, building gnome shelters, flying kites, having fun telling stories, exploring,  and enjoying yoga or meditation at creekside.

Through the Amethyst Children’s Mindfulness and Nature classes, children will learn to naturally relieve their anxieties and calm their minds. Through their connection and growing love for Nature, they will naturally become stewards of the Earth, maturing into adults who will ultimately understand all life is interconnected and must be respected and cherished.

Children aged 4 and older are welcome to attend any of the Amethyst Mindfulness classes. They will enjoy freely playing and exploring In a safe, loving and nurturing space.  All of the teachers and volunteers caring for children in the Children’s Mindfulness program have the proper clearances for working with children, with careful attention to child/adult ratios.

Children’s Mindfulness & Nature Program – 2017
We have lots of fun in store for this year’s program! Each program begins with a short wiggles activity. We recognize the need to get out the wiggles before moving onto a mindfulness and/or meditation practice. This is followed by a fun activity that typically involves a nature experience, where we reinforce our earlier mindfulness activity.
Pre-registration is strongly recommended. So that we can continue to pay it forward, love offerings are very much appreciated. To register, or with any questions, please call Natalie at 717.979.4147.

**SOLD OUT**
Silent Retreat-A Wise Heart (April 1st from 10:30a-4:30p)

Silent Retreat is a signature offering for Amethyst and is a gift we give ourselves to restore peace and clarity. We want to change the world and this retreat creates the conditions for developing and strengthening your wise heart.

The world is noisy, sometimes toxic and it's not always possible to easily pull ourselves up. Over time, the stress manifests in too much thinking, excess doing, anxiety/depression and low energy.

Don't worry if you've never tried a silent retreat. We move very easily through facilitated group sessions and into personal retreat a few times during the day. In our group sessions we will dive deeply into meditation, work on sensing, feeling, contemplating and surrendering into our healing. Peace naturally builds. Balance is restored. Our way forward is more clear.

There is no cost for the retreat and lunch is included but if you can donate to pay it forward for others, we really appreciate it!

**Registration is closed for this retreat but check back for the next one this summer or fall!**

OLD VERSION (BEFORE MARCH 2017)
Amethyst Foundation is a non-profit organization (501C3) dedicated for more than 25 years to the evolution of human potential through creating the conditions for learning, living and healing - Body, Mind and Spirit.

We are not religiously, culturally, or politically affiliated. Instead we embrace values that cultivate our highest human potential. We are dedicated to respect and inclusion for all peoples, cultures, religions, and life styles that are love-based.

The four components listed below are essential to furthering our mission and are at the heart of all of our offerings and partnerships.

Retreat into Nature – We offer the space and natural environment for retreat into 144 acres of natural forest, meadows, wetlands and nature trails.   We offer group Silent Retreats, Mindfulness Days, Meditation Retreats, Woods Walks, and more. You are invited to also come on your own personal retreat to walk, touch, listen, heal and experience nature in a very profound way.

Conscious Community – We come together to create and share the experience of a nourishing, inclusive community that flourishes beyond the boundaries of political and religious affiliations, socioeconomic descriptions and other compartmentalizations that deter our wellbeing.

Environmental Education - Living Simply & Sustainably – We offer events, workshops and educational programs to increase our knowledge of living naturally, and sustainably.  We tend our community garden each season
(www.childrensrainbowgarden.blogspot.com) which supplies participants with fresh produce and helps to connect children and families to the natural world. Everything we demonstrate can be easily replicated in anyone's home or neighborhood.

Healing of Body, Mind, and Spirit -  We offer an array of workshops and events that support the  journey to wellness in Body, Mind, and Spirit.  We explore many different approaches to healing with regular classes and workshops on nutrition, nature's tinctures, physical movement, sound healing, essential oils, ancient healing systems such as Ayurveda, energy medicine, mindfulness, yoga, mediation, Tai Chi and much more!

Red Head Yoga Retreat March 24th (7pm) to March 26th (2pm)

Spring is a time of new life in Mother Nature. You too can have that new life. This retreat is to learn more about you; matching your insides with your outsides. This is a time for you to Recharge, Release, Refocus, and Renew. You'll have two full days of learning about you, what's good, what needs to change, and how to maintain it all. Join us for such topics as Meditation, Self Acceptance, Positivity and more!

Also this year an entire 1/2 day will be focused on your well being with offerings of angels readings, Soul Mentoring, Healing Touch, massage, henna, Native American totem cards, Runes Readings, hiking, art, and more.

Come join your host Cindy Beers of Red Head Yoga along with Joyce Marafka, Maggie Salter, Edyta Hutchman, Linda D'Agostino, and a cast of many other beautiful souls for a weekend of discovery.

Saturday, October 15th: Amethyst Conscious Community Day: Intentions Create the Way

Cost: No cost, however, donations to pay it forward are always needed and greatly appreciated. Amethyst is family and well behaved pet friendly and we are a drug and alcohol free environment.

General Description: Amethyst Retreat Center’s Conscious Community Days (3rd Saturday of each month) provide the opportunity to join a growing global community dedicated to creating life as we know and see it in our hearts.

With so much chaos in the world, Conscious Community day is a very real opportunity to move beyond the concepts and idea of “a better world” and to powerfully join in with others to enjoy the activities and practices that create this reality now. Join in, learn, grow and spread the seeds of Love day by day!

We are pioneers in this regard and in fact we are rebels toward this cause. It is not passive to turn away from the traditional ways of dealing with chaos by staying present in the face of darkness to be the change, the light that illuminates, the unfolding new way empowering a new consciousness for humanity. This is a powerful and very real contribution toward revolutionary social change!

June 17-19th Go Camping! at Amethyst
GO CAMPING! with us over the Summer Solstice weekend and enjoy a weekend with your favorite friends, family and friendly pets. Give yourself permission to get away from the city, the suburbs, and the fast paced lifestyle of always “doing” and simply be. :)

Just bring your campers, tents and sleeping bags or reserve a bed in the main retreat house. Bring a few vegetables and food staples to add to our collective camping “pantry” and we will prepare meals together with what’s available.  We have a few great activities that are planned but we have time for lots of spontaneous adventures too! Connect with your Oracle Tree, have your child take part in a Children’s Mindfulness class, caravan for a ½ day excursion to a Lavender Festival, and enjoy bonfires and music under the Night Sky (of course all is optional if you may just want to sit in Nature and rest).

Spending time in Nature is clinically proven to improve health and camping in a natural setting helps reset the biological clock for deep and restoring sleep.  Most importantly, connecting with Nature and like-minded friends opens us to a deep sense of joy, of knowing ourselves, and brings greater clarity when considering our many options in life.

Arrive anytime over the weekend that’s good for you, but pre-registration is recommended for planning.  Contact us or

End your day sitting by the outdoor fire pit while gazing at the night sky.

Come for a solitary retreat or bring a friend for yoga,  contemplation,  silence, investigation and to connect with peace in a pristine natural environment just a few miles from Harrisburg.

There is an entrance onto the beautiful Susquehanna River a few minutes away.  Bring your kayak, canoe or inner tube for some time on the water and be picked up later near Dauphin or Harrisburg.

Stay in one of our lovely furnished rooms.  Use our facilities to prepare your meals or let us provide delicious healthy ones so you can focus on rest and renewal. Healing therapies can be arranged for you if you are in need of restoration and healing support. What a gift to give yourself or to give to someone you care deeply about.

Amethyst is also a great place to find your own quiet space while visiting friends or traveling for business in the area.  You don't need to journey far away to share the beauty of nature and to come back home to your sense of peace.

Saturday, November 7th from 10am-5pm (at Amethyst Retreat Center)
Facilitated by Karen and Don Kovacs
Our Silent Retreat at Amethyst Retreat Center will provide the conditions for us to touch the sacred mystic within.  This sacred place is where dreams and visions reside and where life is experienced beyond our ordinary perception. Once we touch this aspect of Self, we are forever changed.  During Silent Retreat, all participants will remain in sacred silence for the day.  We will experience both group sittings and also periods of time for personal retreat in nature or in a quiet nook in the retreat center.  Four bells will ring throughout the day to bring participants into a facilitated and powerful group experience.  During this retreat we will feature the music of Hildegard Von Bingen, a mystic that lived more than 800 years ago. She described her music as a "feather on the breath of God" and the words as "cups for Spirit".  We will end the silence with a Toning Circle facilitated by Peach Merzanis.
Event is by Self Guided Donation. However, Pre-registration is required. Please email: amethystretreatcenter@gmail.com to reserve your space.

Lotus Light Community Silent Retreat: Touching the Mystic Within

Special events: November
"Every part of the earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every clearing and humming insect is holy in the memory and experience of my people. The sap, which courses through the trees, carries the memory.....We are part of the earth and it is part of us. The perfumed flowers are our sisters: the deer, the heat of the pony, and man - all belong to the same family"
Chief Seattle, 1854”

Saturday, July 11th from 10 am to 5pm (at Amethyst Retreat Center)
MycoFiltration is a branch of what is known as MycoRemediation: using Fungi to clean up or restore systems.  From Will Brown: MycoRemediation is an experimental study at this point so we will be adding to the growing body of understanding. MycoBooms™ (invented by Paul Stamets) are tubing of organic material (Hemp or Burlap) filled with straw and colonized with Mushroom bearing Fungi that is buoyant and acts as a filter of water but also as a digester of complex molecules like oil.  The Amethyst Retreat center has 2 creeks that run through it which pass through other properties, so we are going to install mycobooms upstream at Amethyst to filter the water and let the mycelium excrete toxin remediating enzymes down stream. We will create a biointensive floating island using mycobooms local aquatic plants and recycled materials. The island will clean the water in the pond and attract more bio diversity. We will be getting our water samples tested before and after to see how the mycobooms and funisland affects the water quality.
This Workshop will be done in 2 parts with a break for lunch.
Check out Will Brown's Facebook Event to register or with questions.

Saturday, June 27th, from 2 to 4:30 pm (at Amethyst Retreat Center)
To raise funds for the local Nepal charity, Fair Trade Group Nepal, Llenay will be offering a Saturday retreat at Amethyst on cultivating loving kindness for ourselves and others. Buddha taught how to develop loving kindness by recognizing the dependent relationships of all things and then based on these relationships, the feelings of attachment or aversion to people, situations or circumstance that can arise. By cultivating loving kindness we can develop a warm and friendly feeling toward everyone, which is the fertile ground for great compassion and inner peace to grow.
Llenay has worked in Nepal since 2001. The campaign page informs us about why it is important to consider supporting local NGO's in Nepal in addition to what you may have offered to international aid agencies for earthquake relief.  Please click here for more information about the Loving Kindness for Nepal campaign.  Suggested donation $40 for relief for Nepal but please do not let cost keep you from attending.  Join the event on Facebook or message Llenay for more info!
